Optima's Emissions Disclosure and SBTi Roadmap

Carbon Footprint

In 2023, Optima Partners' total carbon footprint was 228.0 tCO2e, encompassing both direct and value chain emissions. We are committed to transparency and continuous improvement in our environmental impact.

Emissions Breakdown

Scope 1 and 2 Direct Emissions (98.7 tCO2e)

  • Direct emissions are primarily driven by electricity purchased for facility and data center use (accounting for 78% of total direct emissions).
  • From 2022 to 2023 operational emissions decreased significantly due to transitioning two co-location data centres (PRDC and NY4) to 100% renewable electricity, leading to a 53.8% decrease in Scope 2 emissions.
  • Optima purchased renewable electricity credits (RECs) to mitigate emissions associated with 2022 electricity consumption
  • Optima has set a science-based carbon reduction target for 42% reduction in direct emissions by 2030, and has met the required emissions for 2023

Emissions Breakdown

Scope 3 Indirect Emissions (129.3 tCO2e)

  • Indirect emissions are principally driven by Purchased Goods and Services:
    • Purchased Goods and Services (67%)
    • Business Travel (23%)
  • We measured Purchased Goods and Services related emissions for the first time this year, leading to a significant increase in our Scope 3 emissions compared to 2022.

Scope 3 Indirect Emissions

Progress and Achievements

  • In 2023, we reduced our operational emissions by 5% year-over-year.
  • We have met our required emissions for 2023 in line with our SBTi target.
  • We procured 320 MWhs of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to mitigate emissions associated with our 2022 electricity consumption.
  • We achieved a significant 53.8% decrease in Scope 2 emissions by transitioning two co-location data centers to 100% renewable electricity.

Science-Based Target Decarbonization Roadmap

Science-Based Target Decarbonization Roadmap

Optima submitted a science-based target in 2023 to reduce our Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2022 baseline year. This target aligns with the Paris Agreement goals and has been validated by the SBTi.

Future Objectives

For 2024, we aim to:

  • Continue publicly disclosing our Scope 1 & 2 emissions and reduction initiatives.
  • Improve data quality by seeking actual consumption data for electricity, natural gas, and fugitive emissions.
  • Expand our Purchased Goods & Services analysis to include all operating expenses and categories.
  • Assess data availability and calculation methods for remaining relevant Scope 3 categories.

At Optima Partners, we are committed to environmental responsibility and transparency. We will continue to work towards our emissions reduction goals and regularly update our stakeholders on our progress.
